Yorkshire Water upgrades communications

Utility company plans 1GBit/s network to improve customer services

Yorkshire Water is planning an improved communications network provide better customer services.

The system will link up the water company's 130 sites with an Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IPVPN), capable of carrying secure voice, video and data traffic.

Work on installing the system is set to start this month, and once fully operational will give download speeds of between 8MBit/s and 1GBit/s.

Yorkshire Water is already ranked the number one UK utility company, says infrastructure manager, James Lockwood.
