Asset tracker gains detail
Asset discovery tool makes it easy for firms to visualise the hardware and software on their LAN
Centennial Software has updated its asset discovery tool with features to make it easier for organisations to get a clear overview of the hardware and software running on their LAN.
Discovery 2006, available immediately, adds a new web-based reporting tool called DiscoveryDashboard that is easier to understand, especially for non-technical executives, according to Centennial. Another new feature uses Microsoft’s Visio tool to create a pictorial map of the entire network.
Centennial’s vice-president of marketing, Matt Fisher, said, “There is more graphical reporting in Dashboard, and users can drill down from the graphs to get more detail.”
The Discovery.Visual tool builds a pictorial view of the network, enabling managers to see all the printers and routers that are present as well as PCs and servers.
Discovery 2006 watches for new equipment and apps being connected to the network, and can help firms meet the requirements of the ISO 19770 standard for Software Asset Management, according to Centennial. Future versions are planned to provide more role-specific information to managers.
Discovery 2006 costs about £15 per seat for 1,000 seats, plus a 20 percent annual maintenance fee. The Discovery.Visual component is £995 extra for a single admin licence.
