Unite announces more Fujitsu strikes
Company's attempt to ban strike "backfired", says union
Fujitsu allegedly overlooked Unite's strike notice
Workers union Unite has announced further strikes across key Fujitsu sites over the next few weeks as well as the launch of a parliamentary lobby over jobs, pay and pensions.
Employees at the IT services company will go on strike on 22, 27 and 29 January and 1, 5 and 8 February. Northern Ireland will protest on 26 January.
Fujitsu employs about 11,500 staff in the UK.
According to Unite, Fujitsu threatened the union with an injunction to ban the strikes, which “backfired” when the firm later admitted that it had overlooked the notice of action sent on 15 January.
A parliamentary lobby formed by senior Unite members from key Fujitsu sites will take place on 27 January, while an early-day motion was submitted for debate at the House of Commons by Tony Lloyd MP in support of the Fujitsu workers.
The protests are over proposals for job cuts, salaries and pensions at Fujitsu. The redundancies have now been reduced to about 70 people, who are still at risk of compulsory redundancy on 31 January.
