First Toughbook model released

Panasonic features splash-proof keyboard and shock-proof casing

Panasonic has released the first model in its range of Toughbook ruggedised laptops based on Intel’s latest mobile platform. The model’s combination of performance, robustness and security make it perfect for those on the move, the company said.

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-74, available now, is protected by a shock-proof magnesium alloy casing and a splash-proof keyboard and touchpad. Its hard drive is mounted in shock and vibration-resistant polymers, so that it can survive a drop from up to 38 inches.

The new Toughbook is based on a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7300 with up to 4GB of memory, and can be pre-installed with either Windows XP or Windows Vista. It has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and optional GPRS/Edge capability, the latter allowing for connectivity virtually anywhere. A fingerprint scanner is optional.
Prices start at £2,199.
