Service to guarantee safer email

Safe-Post system guarantees the secure delivery of business emails

Safe-Post will launch a new service today, designed to guarantee the safe, fast and confirmed delivery of corporate emails. The Safe-Post system can be downloaded in minutes and sits alongside existing corporate email systems.

Users are authenticated through passwords and digital certificates every time they log on. “If [traditional mail] is time-critical or confidential, you would send it by recorded delivery or by courier, but [until now there has been] no email equivalent,” said Safe-Post chairman Brian Raven. “There is [a global email] system which is imperfect – and the situation will only get worse.”

The Safe-Post product ensures a direct connection between the sender’s outbox and receiver’s inbox, so confidential mail cannot be intercepted, Raven said. The encryption requires both parties to be registered for the system to work. Safe-Post will automatically send new recipients a link to its registration site, which can be completed in five minutes.

“We’ve tried to make the process of registering and implementing Safe-Post as straightforward as possible [and] one of the spin-off benefits is that it also [cuts out] spam,” said Raven.

Graham Titterington of analyst Ovum cautioned that the registration process could prevent widespread adoption. “The service itself sounds good, but life is getting too complicated,” he argued. “It will work in small closed communities but in the outside world people will say ‘we haven’t got time for this’.”

Safe-Post is free for the first three months followed by a one-off payment of £5 per user and a monthly service tariff of £4.
