Audit Commission signs £5m deal with Thus

Contract will provide converged next generation network

The Audit Commission has signed a £5m contract with network operator Thus to provide a converged next generation network.

Thus will connect 500 Audit Commission sites across the country with a resilient wide area network (Wan), centralising its business applications.

It will allow the commission to begin voice, data and video networking over IP immediatel, enabling videoconferencing over IP to provide greater flexibility for its mobile workforce.

The commission, which advises the public sector on the most efficient use of public funds, wanted to replace its existing network infrastructure to increase its own efficiency.

It will be connected by Thus' core network via private access DSL and fibre.

Roll out to primary sites is expected by the end of July, with further sites completed by July, 2007.

Thus chief operating office Phil Male said: 'The Audit Commission required a supplier that could work hand in hand with its internal ICT team and had an understanding of a distributed network environment.'
