Talk Talk adds 36,000 customers in 3Q 2009

Just ahead of the company's planned split of retail and telecoms into seperate companies

UK ISP Talk Talk added 36,000 customers to its broadband and fixed line offering in the third quarter of 2009.

In addition, third quarter sales at TalkTalk, which sells broadband and fixed line phone services, rose 29 per cent to £446m, helped by the company’s purchase of Tiscali UK unit, which added 1.45 million broadband users to its customer base in May last year.

These results come ahead of a planned split in the retail and telecoms arm, due to take place in March this year, and are part of wider positive results that have seen parent company, Carphone Warehouse, increase its 2010 forecasts for the second time.

The company also benefitted from increased Christmas smart phone sales in the UK, with year on year revenues up 6.3 per cent as a result of customers splashing out on new models including the iPhone. Nokia's Illuvial also performed strongly.
