Fish4 overhauls search technology

Recruitment uses technology to support expansion plans

Recruitment web site Fish4 has implemented a search platform to improve the efficiency of searches across all areas of its business and support expansion plans.

The company is using the Fast enterprise search platform (Fast ESP) to enable a new CV matching service and support plans to increase its CV database to more than one million in 2007.

Richard Yeo, chief technology officer at Fish4, said: ‘We are in the process of rapid expansion with plans to add over 200 employees and a range of exciting new products within the next two years.’

Yeo says the company chose Fast because it understands the site’s diverse search requirements.

‘We needed a rich and highly scalable enterprise search platform to help us create innovative new services that allow us to stay ahead of the competition,’ he said.

Initially the technology will be used for the CV matching service on its job site, Fish4jobs (www.fish4jobs.co.uk), to automatically match job adverts against the site’s CV database. It will email the 10 best-matching CVs to the recruitment advertiser within minutes.

The company will then use Fast ESP to rewrite the search infrastructure of its CV database so it can handle millions more CVs, compared to the 180,000 CVs it currently stores.

It aims to have this in place post-holiday January to meet the busiest job hunting period.

It will also use the technology to create a 60 second CV, which will allow job hunters to advertise immediate availability to recruiters who need to fill vacancies urgently.
