Intelligent tills offer Spar added convenience

New Epos system to save counter space at more than 200 shops

Tates Ltd, which operates more than 200 Spar convenience stores, is implementing touchscreen intelligent registers to improve efficiency and save counter space.

The retailer has selected Epson IR-700 tils based on their size, integrated design and ease of installation and the importance of efficient use of space at the checkout.

‘We wanted the next generation of compact electronic point-of-sale systems to make the checkout as comfortable and easy as possible for staff and efficient for customers,’ said retail IT development manager Martin Rushton.

‘The size and flexibility of the IR-700 allows us to design our counters around the system, which is ideal.’

Rushton says Tates will extend its Epos system by using the IR-700’s dual screen capability to display customer advertisements and promotions. It also includes a built-in thermal receipt printer, magnetic stripe reader and open architecture to provide the platform for Spar’s point of sale software.

The system was piloted at Spar outlets in Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport and Nefyn in North Wales. The registers will then be installed in all new stores and during the refurbishment of existing outlets.
