Asset management ready for Vista

Centennial's software should aid migration to the Vista platform

Centennial Software has added support for Windows Vista to its Discovery 2006 asset management tool. The software can also aid migration to Microsoft's new platform by identifying Vista-capable machines, the firm said.

Discovery provides a complete picture of all hardware and software on the corporate network, according to Centennial. The new client agent for Vista PCs is available for customers to download from the firm's web site.

Centennial chief executive Andy Burton said wholesale corporate adoption of Windows Vista will not happen immediately, but firms needed to be ready for it appearing on the network.

"To maintain effective IT governance, including best security practice and software licensing compliance, it is essential that these machines are correctly identified and tracked,” Burton said.

Discovery can also save firms from having to refresh their entire PC fleet by identifying machines capable of running Vista or which will require only a low-cost upgrade, according to Burton.
