Revenue from IT services on the rise

Gartner says services turnover increased six per cent in 2005

Global IT services revenues increased six per cent in 2005, according to research published today.

Analyst Gartnersays IT services revenue worldwide totalled $624bn in 2005 – a six per cent increase from 2004.

Kathryn Hale, vice president of Gartner’s IT services group says the trend for growth in outsourcing services changed in 2005.

‘In 2005, project-based services and software support grew at a greater rate than the overall market average, which has not been the case since 2000,' she said.

Despite being one of the smaller industry sectors in external IT services spend, Healthcare demonstrated the greatest spending growth with an increase of 8.7 per cent from $18bn in 2004 to $19bn in 2005.

Financial services continued to be the largest industry sector totalling $141bn in 2005 – a seven per cent increase from 2004.

In Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region revenue rose 5.8 per cent from 2004 to €173bn.
