Survey reveals high resignation levels, despite pay rises

UK IT executives are resigning in growing numbers in spite of increases in salary, according to a survey by the Chartered Management Institute.

The 2006 National Management Salary Survey shows the UK IT sector is turning over 10.7 per cent of its labour force, the highest of any industry in the country.

The rising turnover comes in spite of an average salary growth of 6.3 per cent, and the Institute says the main causes are dissatisfaction with the working environment and uncertainty over the future of job roles.

Poor training opportunities were also identified by the survey as a cause for moving jobs.

Jo Causon, director of corporate affairs at the Chartered Management Institute says the increase is a matter for concern, especially as organisations continue to identify skills gaps.

'Of course, a certain amount of labour turnover can be a good thing, but if the current trend is allowed to continue it could breed dangerous levels of uncertainty and impact on the strategic development of UK organisations,' she said.
