Business intelligence set for 10 per cent growth

CIOs regard business intelligence as number one priority for 2007

Global business intelligence (BI) platform revenue will grow 10 per cent in 2007 reaching €1.5bn according to analyst Gartner.

The report says BI platform revenue will grow at an annual compound growth rate of 9.7 per cent to reach €1.9bn in 2010.

A preview of the results from Gartner’s annual survey of 1,400 CIOs worldwide shows that BI is the number one technology priority in 2007 for the second year running.

‘BI has become a strategic initiative and is now recognised by chief information officers (CIOs) and business leaders as instrumental in driving business effectiveness and innovation,’ said Andreas Bitterer, research vice president at Gartner.

While BI is recognised as a strategic priority at management level it is not well understood among company employees says Bitterer making an increased focus on training crucial in 2007.

While increasing investment in BI present good opportunities for software vendors Gartner predicts the market will become increasingly competitive in 2007.
