David Bickerton takes on Centrica CIO role

Centrica has promoted David Bickerton, formerly chief information officer (CIO) at subsidiary British Gas, to the role of the parent company’s global CIO.

He will assume the role with immediate effect. Bickerton will be responsible for developing and delivering an integrated IS strategy across the group, according to Centrica.

British Gas is currently embroiled in a legal battle with IT services provider Accenture over an IT project that was implemented during his tenure as CIO. The company has filed a £182m lawsuit against Accenture over the SAP-based Jupiter System.

“2010 and 2011 will be busy and exciting years for the Centrica group as we work together to grow British Gas, deliver value from our upstream investments, develop our North American business and drive financial return,” said Bickerton.

He joined Centrica in 2004, and prior to this, he held general management roles at Fujitsu and ICL.
