Jobcentre Plus IT is wasting time

Staff say slow, unreliable and cumbersome technology makes their work harder

Valuable Jobcentre Plus personal adviser time is being wasted coping with slow-running and inconvenient computer systems, according to a National Audit Office report.

Some 47 per cent surveyed whose work is 'heavily reliant' on IT complained of IT delays 'daily' - a claim disputed by management - systems are incapable of printing out client details, diary systems are 'cumbersome' and too many fields on computerised forms have to be re-keyed separately and almost identically for each new customer, says the report.
