Stratus offers IT managers better virtualisation kit
Quad-core, dual-socket systems built for virtualisation
Fault-tolerant server vendor Stratus has updated its ftServer line, launching three new systems aimed at middle-sized and large enterprises.
The new ftServer 2510, 4410 and 6210 systems can use six 500GB serial ATA (SATA) or 146GB serial attached SCSI (SAS) disks.
“The ftServer platform can be used alongside VMware's VMotion and Infrastructure 3 software to cut planned downtime considerably. We are seeing the number of production applications running in virtual machines go up, and the demand for continuous availability is going up alongside this," said Stratus availability consultant Andy Bailey.
Stratus said it was the mid-tier 4410 system that would benefit the most from the chipset upgrade, since it, moves from a dual core-based design to a dual socket, quad-core 2GHz system and with 32GB has more than double the amount of system memory previously available.
The enterprise-focussed ftServer 6210 uses a dual socket quad-core 3GHz Intel chip and also has 32GB of system memory.
All Stratus ftServers support Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux OSes, with the mid-tier 4410 and enterprise 6210 systems also supporting VMware’s Infrastructure 3 virtualisation solution.
