Debenhams looks to boost intelligence
New conductor speeds data integration and reporting
High street retailer Debenhams says the installation of a data conductor to integrate information from transactional databases into a new server will improve sales performance.
Trading data is used on Monday mornings to allow Debenhams to make sales and merchandising decisions, but the previous system often fell short of the deadline.
This resulted in service levels being breached so the company trialled the installation of the new system in February before rolling it out across the business.
The high performance loading of trading data generated at 124 high street stores and its website is used for business intelligence and reporting.
Business systems manager Jagpal Jheeta said: ‘It is imperative for our business intelligence systems to be up and running by 7am every Monday morning.
‘The data conductor ensures the weekend batch data is available with plenty of time to create reports. This data is then used to assess the previous week’s performance and make crucial business decisions relating to sales and merchandising.’
Debenhams chose the Sunopsis Data Conductor to load the data into its new Enterprise-class Netezza Performance Server.
IT director Steve Kircher added: ‘Sunopsis allowed us to exploit the investment in our existing systems, it offered a low total cost of ownership, and its flexibility and ease of use allowed us to meet challenging delivery deadlines.’
The conductor is designed to handle high volume data integration requirements by leveraging the power of already-in-place RDBMS (relational database management system) engines to execute the heavy duty integration processes.
