Corel guide for software asset control

The Get Compliant campaign will help firms manage the lifecycle of licences and maybe cut costs

Corel has launched a campaign to improve software asset management (SAM), especially among medium-sized businesses.

The Get Compliant campaign will provide information to help firms comply with the law and adopt best practices to manage the lifecycle of licences in line with the British Software Alliance’ s “Just Ask Sam” and similar guidelines.

Corel’s move comes as Microsoft prepares to test its SAM Customer Toolkit firms to help buyers measure usage, understand licensing terms and select appropriate tariffs.

Also, Monotype has developed Fontwise, a licence management suite.

Separately, at a roundtable held by IT configuration management Tideway Systems this week, customers said that asset monitoring and discovery tools could help to save on licences, improve server utilisation, and reduce exposure to dependencies.

“The sheer horror [we discovered] was how much we had,” said Stephen Ashton, director of global IT business management at Dresdner Kleinwort. “The estate was vast.”
