Online gaming firm bets on SOA

Talarius improves infrasturucture to help growth

Talarius, owner of the UK’s largest chain of gaming centres, has installed a service-oriented architecture (SOA) as the core infrastructure for its Cyberslotz virtual gaming lounges.

The company, which also owns the Quicksilver chain of arcades, is using technology from vendor BEA to scale online lounges to meet the performance demands of customers, and to introduce new gaming services such as Bingo.

‘We have white label sites that we run for other businesses,’ said Nick Pearson, technology director at Talarius. ‘We have been rebuilding our platform from the ground up to improve our skinning – changing pages easily – and offer different services to different businesses.’

New laws governing the UK gambling and bookmaking industry, combined with the convergence of technology and multiple delivery channels, are fuelling demand for online gaming.

And Pearson believes online gaming will grow in popularity in the near future as a result.

‘The government is considering increasing taxation on UK operators. If it puts a tax on, most companies will probably move out,’ he said. ‘We expect that our business will quadruple in size as the online gaming market grows and matures.’
