Virgin Money Giving opts for web logging

Virgin site buys Log Rythm software

Virgin Money Giving, the not-for-profit internet fund run by the online banking firm, has adopted log management technology from supplier Log Rhythm following a three-month trial.

The system organises data created through keystrokes and provides the company with information regarding trends via a dashboard. These might include the day or week the data was recorded, or unusual trends that might be indicative of hacking activity.

Virgin Money’s technical architect James Page said: “It sorts data into pre-defined categories and understandable events, which means less-skilled technical staff can read the results.”

The solution has also been adopted by several public sector organisations, as an increasing number are required to comply with the government’s Code of Connection initiative – a list of internet security controls with which all local authorities must be compliant.

Log Rhythm customers include the University of Westminster, Cardiff County Council and Blaenau Gwent County Council as well as Bourne Leisure – the company behind brands such as Haven Holidays and Butlins, which use LogRhythm for PCI DSS credit card security compliance.
