Government database to monitor one-to-one tuition in schools

Information fed back will affect delivery of funded scheme to improve literacy and numeracy

The government is to develop a database of specially funded one-to-one tuition sessions in schools around the country.

Whitehall has earmarked more than £150m for programmes starting in September this year that will give more than 100,000 children at key stages two, three and four access to one-to-one sessions in English and maths.

The government is setting up the database to measure uptake of one-to-one tuition against national targets and ensure the scheme is reaching target groups.

The Department of Children Schools and Families (DCSF) issued a contract notice for the database which said: "The system should collect enough information to allow us to measure the uptake and impact by phase, subject and particular pupil groups but impose as little burden on schools as possible. The information collected needs to be accessible by local authorities as well as the department."

DCSF said the National Pupil Database will be available for information to be checked against as well as school census data.
