Sonic improves ESB technology

New version of enterprise service bus unveiled by SOA pioneer Sonic Software

Sonic Software will today unveil a new version of the enterprise service bus (ESB) it pioneered, which is now at the heart of many service-oriented architecture (SOA) plans.

ESB 7.0 is due for release on 17 April and has an Eclipse-based workbench to model, test and deploy SOA projects. Also new is support for advanced web services including WS-Reliable Messaging, WS-Addressing, WS-Security and WS-Policy.

Although it is acknowledged as a powerful product, Sonic faces competition from consulting giants and systems management platform vendors such as CA and HP.

However, Sonic chief technology evangelist David Chappell argued, “It takes a lot of work to understand the scope of an ESB. There are companies that are so entrenched with IBM Global Services that they continue to pay the dollars but we are getting significant wins with customers who want to gain back control.”
