Harrods rolls out new online infrastructure
E-commerce system will deal with purchases from the firm's web site and call centre
Luxury retailer Harrods will launch an integrated online infrastructure next month as part of a continuing drive to meet users’ demands for information.
The e-commerce system, based on Microsoft Commerce Server 2007, will deal with purchases from the firm’s web site and call centre, and will be combined with existing in-store point-of-sale information in an SAP enterprise resource planning database.
IT director David Llamas says the process will help provide the right information to the business at the right time.
‘People are now used to data – it is part of their daily working process – and unless you have a flexible and online architecture, you cannot run at the correct pace,’ he said.
Till-based retail sales have already been converted to an electronic point of sale (Epos) platform. The Epos system is based on Retail Java from Retail Business Solutions.
