City of Edinburgh Council updates IT in £10m project
Scottish local authority plans consolidation of systems to improve services to citizens
City of Edinburgh Council is to consolidate its IT systems as part of a £10m technology transformation programme.
Called 'Service Redesign', the programme is intended to bring all of the council's IT into a centrally managed whole to make it more accessible for citizens and easier for employees to use.
The consolidation will be centred on an implementation of Microsoft Active Directory, to create a managed desktop environment for Edinburgh's 6,000 users.
The Service Redesign programme, in partnership with BT, will give the council an opportunity to take a massive step forward in modernising its services, says City of Edinburgh councillor Donald Wilson.
'It will allow us to work more efficiently across different parts of our organisation,' he said.
'It also means that our supplier, Civica, provides us with a faster and more responsive IT support service which is crucial to us in today’s fast-moving environment where delivering customer services means systems must keep running 24/7.'
