County Council uses content system to stop pupils seeing unsuitable material

Suffolk County Council is using a content filtering system to manage internet access for its schools.

The technolog is allowing the county's schools to conform with East of England Broadband Network (E2BN) guidelines on content, and also exert more individual control on what pupils can access on the internet.

The county is one of 11 that form E2BN, a group set up to improve broadband access to schools and allow greater access to teaching and learning resources on the internet.

Tim Wetten, IT business partner for Suffolk says the system is based on open source software.

'E2BN already uses Appliansys Cachebox for its core network across the consortium and was therefore a logical choice for us to use locally,' he said.

'We have just started deploying one box in each school, and aim to complete the roll out in time for the new term.'
