AEP Network's Net Remote appliance can help firms remotely protect data and applications

Access security vendor AEP Networks is to launch Net Remote, a new appliance to help firms protect data and applications over remote connections.

“It’s a portable Ethernet encryption device that home workers would plug straight into their router,” said Rob Lane, AEP executive vice-president for secure networking. “It complements our Net range of secure networking products and adds remote access.”

The device’s software can work across remote LANs, broadband and Ethernet-enabled Wi-Fi, and can support voice and video over IP.

AEP designed Net Remote specifically for the UK government and public sector workers, and said the system protects remote communications in accordance with the Communications Electronic Security Group (CESG)’s Enhanced Grade (Confidential) standard.

Net Remote is a scalable standalone system that integrates seamlessly with existing AEP Net encryptor tools. It supports IPSec-based encryption – and has a full public key-based management system and locked- down source authentication for added security.

The device uses a government algorithm as traffic passes through it, even with VoIP. The hardware is based on standard Intel chips and AEP’s own field programmable gate-array (FPGA) and crypto-processing application-specific integrated circuits (Asics).

Although AEP has not yet been marketing this technology specifically for corporates, it said it had already received enquiries from a number of firms.
