Shore Porters Society is tracking vehicles in real time

The world’s oldest distribution and removals company is using real time vehicle tracking technology to improve customer by ensuring its fleet run to schedule.

The Shore Porters Society is saving almost 40 hours a week through increased efficiency and productivity, and has generated a return on investment in just six weeks.

The company, which is about 500 years old, chose Fleetstar-Online telematics technology from Cybit, to provide live internet-based tracking.

‘We had an interest in telematics for several years and the benefits have been immediate,’ says Shore Porters Society partner Sean Simpson. ‘We can now respond immediately to customers rather than having to go away and find out if any vehicles available.

‘Our whole operation is very customer-driven, so enhancing the service that we can give to them was a major factor in our decision to implement Fleetstar-Online.’

Other benefits include managing employees more effectively to increase productivity and reduction in insurance costs through better risk management.

‘We also noticed immediately how Fleetstar-Online makes so many tasks hassle-free,’ said Simpson. ‘As well as the ease-of-use of the system and availability of e-mailed reports, the system helps us get round problems in running a fleet.’

This includes pinpointing the location of a broken down vehicle to ensure the driver was is back on the road as soon as possible.

Fleetstar-Online uses global positioning systems (GPS) to track vehicles and fleet and asset management software to provide information on the internet.
