MoD uses Blackberrys
BT will provide hand-held devices for civil servants and military personnel
Blackberrys will empower civil servants
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is using super-secure Blackberrys to let staff communicate on the move.
The Blackberry Enterprise Server system provided by BT and Research in Motion is the only mobile data solution approved for use by the MoD. It allows lost or stolen smartphones to be remote controlled, shut down, or wiped by IT administrators. Users have secure wireless access to email, phone access and organiser access.
"I am really pleased to see this service will bring genuine benefit to the working lives of MoD people. Being able to see and respond to time sensitive information on the move is critical to the Defence staff today," said Colonel David Jones, IPTL Defence Fixed Network, MOD.
BT will deliver the Blackberry Enterprise Server through Defence Fixed Telecommunications Service on behalf of the MoD.
