Dot UK registry seeks feedback on its change plans

Nominet, the registry for .uk domain names, has launched a new consultation on proposed changes to its Dispute Resolution Service (DRS), which it says will help it to continue providing a fair, cost-effective and speedy service.

The not-for-profit organisation wants to hear from IT managers and will propose a revised DRS after reviewing responses to a new online survey.

Proposed changes include how fees are paid and new rules regarding what constitutes an abusive registration of a .uk domain name, according to Nominet.

"IT managers are tasked with registering and maintaining a company's online presence – and can be held responsible if there is a problem," explained Nominet chief executive Lesley Cowley. "Approximately one in 1,600 .uk domain names is disputed, so it is important that the (DRS) remains quick, simple, fair and approachable for all."

The consultation period lasts until 16 February.
