McAfee steps up integrated risk management drive

Better interoperability between network scanning, policy management and intrusion prevention tools

Security specialist McAfee has launched new upgrades to many of its risk and compliance solutions, designed to enhance interoperability between the products and boost firms’ security risk management capabilities.

McAfee Foundstone 6.0 – the latest version of its network vulnerability scanning tool – now features more customisable reporting based on the role of the end-user, and can feed into the IntruShield intrusion prevention system (IPS) product to boost its effectiveness, according to the vendor.

Remediation Manager 4.5, meanwhile, adds tighter integration with McAfee’s ePolicy Orchestrator and Network Access Control offerings so it can use the data generated by these products to remediate quarantined devices in line with policies.

“The key word here is integration, integration, integration,” said McAfee’s security analyst Greg Day. “It’s also about visibility. To be able to metricise and see what’s going on and to be able to show the business and auditors what’s going on and how you are improving.”

McAfee also announced a new version of its IntruShield product with performance enhancements that make it capable of handling 10 Gigabit Ethernet and IPv6 networks, the security vendor said.
