BT switch to Cerner completed
NHS National IT Programme software supplier changes in London are now fully in effect
NHS supplier to London BT has confirmed that its switch to healthcare software provider Cerner has now been completed.
BT was originally working with IDX (which was taken over by GE Healthcare in November last year) to deliver the next-generation hospital patient administration systems at the heart of the £6bn National Programme for NHS IT.
But on-going development delays led to the supplier switching its subcontractor in July this year.
The handover to Cerner is now finished, according to BT's financial results released yesterday. The programme is now making good progress, says the company.
BT followed a similar path to Fujitsu, NHS prime contractor for the South of England, which replaced IDX with Cerner a year earlier.
