Find out next week at Deskflix: The Future of Hybrid and Multi Cloud

Cloud use has grown quickly in the last two years, strengthening the already-ongoing move towards hybrid and multi cloud infrastructure. No longer seen as a simple halfway house between legacy and pure cloud plays, hybrid cloud has many benefits, especially for firms with compliance concerns; and multi cloud setups are a prime way to avoid vendor lock-in while getting all the advantages of best-of-breed.

Computing will discuss the merits and drawbacks of both approaches at the upcoming Deskflix: The Future of Hybrid and Multi Cloud event next week. This free virtual event will not only host expert speakers and sponsors, but also support networking with hundreds of other UK IT leaders - and count towards CPD accreditation.

Bruno Amaro Almeida, head of technology at net zero transformation firm Fortum, will take part in a panel discussion on the day. We sat down with him to learn more about his thoughts on the future of the cloud market.

Computing: Please provide a brief outline of what you'll be talking about at Deskflix: The Future of Hybrid and Multi Cloud?

Bruno Amaro Almeida: I will join the panel discussion about hybrid and multicloud strategies and governance. I'll share my experiences and cover the typical mistakes and misconceptions associated with these strategies.

CTG: Which cloud trend has you most excited currently?

BAA: I am particularly interested in sustainable software development (and sustainability in general), and excited to see the role cloud is playing into that field.

CTG: Which cloud approach do you feel best fits your business, hybrid, multi or private?

BAA: At Fortum, we have a multi cloud strategy and our digital development is purely cloud-based. We also see hybrid architectures as beneficial yet niche, and restricted to fulfil certain concrete business requirements.

CTG: Which cloud skills should IT leaders be looking to develop / recruit over the next year or so?

BAA: I think strong AWS and Microsoft Azure skills are and will continue to be very beneficial and extend to multiple roles: solution architects, site reliability engineers, application developers, etc.

Also, we see it as increasingly beneficial to develop cloud competencies in non-engineering roles such as digital product owner and service designer.

CTG: Which existing or upcoming technology are you most excited about?

BAA: I am quite excited about serverless, machine learning and IoT technologies and the rise of tooling in the lowcode/nocode/RPA space.

Deskflix: The Future of Hybrid and Multi Cloud will take place on the 22nd February. Click here to reserve your free place.
