The V3 Hotseat: Nokia West Europe president Conor Pierce

Pierce discusses his hobbies, dreams, thoughts on IT, and of course, his mobile phone

Nokia vice president of West Europe, Conor Pierce, takes to V3's Hotseat this week to discuss his hobbies, dreams, thoughts on IT, and unsurprisingly of course, his beloved mobile phone.

Pierce began his career at Ericsson but after six years took a job at Nokia as a managing director, first for Ireland, then for Turkey and finally for the UK and Ireland. In January this year, Pierce took on his current role and now manages Nokia operations for all of West Europe.

Pierce is second in V3's new Hotseat feature, following information commissioner Christopher Graham last week.

Where's your favourite holiday destination?

Given the pace at which we work at Nokia it would have to be somewhere quiet and beautiful. For me, the Sahara Desert is the most pristine and peaceful place in the world, a great destination to really get away from it all.

E-readers or real books?

While I love a good book, the e-reader offerings on the market these days have made my favourites even more accessible on the go. I use the Kindle app on my Lumia 800 and read mainly books that have an element of exploration or adventure to them.

Twitter, Facebook or Google+?

I'm a Facebook man.

The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?

Neither - I'm a massive David Bowie fan.

Favourite film?

The Usual Suspects, every time.

Windows or Mac OS?

I see the benefits of and use both. My phone operates on the Windows OS and I own a Mac.

What would be your dream job (apart from your current role, of course)?

National Geographic Wildlife Photographer - I've always had a keen interest in nature and photography so this would be the perfect job to combine both.

Which mobile phone and tablet do you currently use?

My mobile phone is a beautiful and sleek Nokia Lumia 800 in white. I don't own a tablet as my Lumia does everything I need.

Which person do you most admire in the IT industry?

The next genius who delivers the answer to the question ‘what's next?'. This industry is all about the next big thing so anyone who delivers that gets my admiration.

Which technology has had the biggest impact on your working life?

Like most people, I use my mobile phone every day, both for work and personal use and would be lost without it. From checking emails and creating documents to taking photos and keeping in touch on Facebook, it impacts and complements almost every moment of my working day. Most importantly it also keeps me close to the people who mean the most to me.
