In the first of a two-part video interview, JP Rangaswami, managing director for strategy and innovation at BT Design, gives his thoughts on whether or not the recession has killed the financial sector's drive to innovate.

Prior to joining BT, Rangaswami was global chief information officer at investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he championed the use of community-based development methods and practices such as wikis and blogs to capture staff knowledge.

In his current role, his job includes designing, building and implementing BT's IT, as well as business processes to provide products to customers over the telecoms giant's 21CN next-generation network.
