A senior Microsoft VP has admitted that the only sure-fire way to get good performance out of Windows 2000 is to buy it pre-installed on new hardware, rather than installing it on existing PCs. Jim Allchin, Microsoft vice president of the Platforms Group, told analysts that the only way to guarantee hardware compatibility with Windows 2000 was to buy the latest hardware.
