Canadian desktop software developer, Corel, and software tools company Inprise/Borland have merged in a transaction valued at $2.44bn. The companies say the deal will create a "Linux powerhouse", although both are relatively recent converts to Linux. The companies said the deal would allow them to offer a combined source for Linux services, development tools and productivity applications.
