At its meeting last week, ETSI's Project TIPHON adopted an architecture for telephony over IP that is independent of specific call signalling protocols. The architecture supports a range of telephony related services and capabilities, including ones currently provided over switched circuit network across multiple administrative domains. IP telephony systems will be based both on the H.323 series of standards from the International Telecommunications Union and the Session initiation Protocol from the Internet Engineering Task Force.
