Flag Telecom announced the final stages of its high-capacity fibre-optic round the world project. The link will be completed by laying more than 22,000km of cable worth $2.1bn under the Pacific Ocean linking Los Angeles with Tokyo. It is the first sub-sea cable to carry eight pairs of optical fibres and the largest capacity system yet developed. The company is also building a link between Paris, London and New York.
