Sterling Software made its third storage management purchase in nine months, snapping up storage area networking (San) specialist Retrieve for $18 million. Retrieve develops software that is embedded into San-based storage devices such as Raid controllers. Sterling plans to market Retrieve's Intellisan application by the second quarter to potential OEMs such as storage hardware developers Brocade and IBM. Sterling's other recent acquisition were Coredata and Spectra Logic's Alexandria business unit.
