Imprivata improves access management

Greater support for physical security systems and biometric sensors

Written by Phil Muncaster

Access management firm Imprivata has enhanced its appliance-based OneSign platform to include greater support for physical access control systems, biometric sensors and fast user switching.

The vendor now supports roughly 90 per cent of the biometric sensor market by adding Authentec to its list of supported vendors, and has also improved walk-away security by enabling users to lock a shared workstation by tapping their proximity card, according to Imprivata senior vice president of business development Geoff Hogan.

Other features include the ability for multiple users to access their Windows desktop on shared workstations without needing to log on and off each time, and the ability to roam a user's Citrix/Remote Desktop session when they move to different workstations.

The firm has also focused on integration with physical access control systems by embedding AMAG Symmetry and Nedap AEOS within its OneSign platform.

"It takes time for [physical and logical convergence] to build in organisations, but we're also seeing a vastly increased rate of momentum in this area," said Hogan. "It's all about making secure access experience much easier and compelling in different use cases."
