VMware Fusion 2 will make Windows safer for Mac customers

VMware launches Fusion 2

Apple users can now run Windows with more security

Written by Rosalie Marshall at VMWorld 2008 in Las Vegas

Virtualisation firm VMware is upgrading its Fusion application to make it safer for its Apple customers to run Windows software.

VMware Fusion is a virtual machine software product that allows Intel-based Apple users to run Windows and Linux software without the need for rebooting or partitioning.

Fusion 2 will take snapshots of customers' virtual machines to "keep Windows safe from bumps in the road", according to the firm.

The application will also offer a complimentary 12-month subscription to McAfee VirusScan Plus.

"As we have seen with consumers, SMEs as well as large organisations are starting to consider the possibility of deploying more Macs within their corporate environment because of the company's positive mindshare within the IT user market, among other reasons," said IDC analyst Michael Rose.

"With technologies available today like VMware Fusion, switching to a Mac by individuals within organisations, whole departments or even across the entire company, is more conceivable because it allows users to adopt Apple hardware and software, while enabling the continued use of Windows applications and their associated management infrastructure."

VMware Fusion is currently available for £49.99.
