Igel beefs up thin client offering

Latest Linux firmware upgrade adds Leostream client

Written by Clement James

German thin client vendor Igel Technology has unveiled its latest Linux firmware upgrade, adding a Leostream client for accessing virtual desktops via VDI.

The company has also unveiled the NoMachine NX 3.0 client for bandwidth optimised access to server-based Linux applications running on NoMachine NX Server.

The latest Citrix ICA 10 client is integrated in the new firmware release, available for £162 for a dual monitor capable device.

The firmware allows full virtual desktop access via the Leostream Connection Broker, while support for NoMachine’s NX protocol opens up the possibility to efficiently access Linux applications even over narrow bandwidth connections.

This allows organisations to combine the cost and security benefits of open source software with the cost, security and manageability benefits of Igel thin clients, the company said.

Finally, the inclusion of the latest Citrix ICA 10 client in the firmware with increased security levels and an improved user experience, including auto reconnect to all disconnected applications on re-login, makes it ideal for users in an environment with an intermittent network connection such as wireless.

"With this latest firmware release, Igel is offering the greatest depth of digital services in a single thin client in the market," said Stephen Yeo, worldwide strategic marketing director at Igel.

"Using one low cost manageable device, users can now connect to almost any server-based infrastructure including Citrix-hosted applications, virtual PCs and server-based Linux applications.

"This is in addition to other digital services such as RDP, web, terminal emulation, Java and VoIP."
