Sony preps Blu-ray desktop computer

Forthcoming Viao RC300 comes with dual layer Blu-ray burner

Written by Tom Sanders in California

Sony has released new information on its upcoming Vaio RC300 desktop computer. The system is expected to be Sony's first computer featuring the next generation Blu-ray high definition DVD format.

The computer will play and burn both single and dual layer disks with 25Gb and 50Gb storage capacity respectively.

Sony positioned the forthcoming PC as a tool for high definition enthusiasts, touting that the device will be able to burn content from high definition camcorders in its original 1080 HD resolution.

The computer furthermore will feature a Intel Pentium D dual core processor as well as high speed storage, memory and graphics cards. The device is expected to run Windows XP Media Center Edition and comes bundled with Sony's Giga Pocket TV recording software.

The company didn't provide a projected launch date or pricing information.

Samsung is expected to release the first Blu-ray DVD player this summer and the first Blu-ray movies are slated for release on 23 May.
