An Austrian auction site has been forced to remove bad taste "souvenirs" such as parts of the World Trade Centre (WTC), after they were advertised on the site.
Some users had listed pieces of rubble and glass taken from the destroyed buildings as "collector's items".
According to reports, some of the more macabre auctions were video footage of the disaster and a fireman's helmet pulled from the wreckage.
The auction site OneTwoSold.at has since pulled the advertisements and claimed that no bids were made on the items.
However, World Trade Centre memorabilia is pulling in much interest on US auction site eBay.
A German tourist video of places to see in New York, including footage of the WTC, has been sold for DM1410.00, and a snow globe featuring the Twin Towers has sold for $405.00.
Even ticket stubs from the observation deck are going for hundreds of dollars, and the site is inundated with picture postcards of the Manhattan skyline.
