IT goes green at Société Générale

SG wants to improve energy efficiency at its buildings

Société Générale (SG) has launched a plan to reduce its carbon emissions with the aid of environmentally-friendly technology.

One of the upcoming initiatives of the group-wide programme includes a study named "Smart Building", which will look into the integration of a tool that automatically reports on the fluid and energy consumption of SG's offices.

Another future study will set out to create a self-evaluation tool to identify the goals and actions needed to improve building energy efficiency and environmental performance.

To date, SG's green IT plan has already involved the launch of an internal best-practice guide, which explains lifecycles of office equipment such as PCs, servers and phones as well as conditions for carrying out disposals under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations.

SG has also signed equipment reconditioning contracts with a number of organisations, as well as for WEEE collection. The bank's overseas subsidiaries will be encouraged to follow suit.
