Domain name sales scandal

Dodgy tactics by domain name registers are hurting companies - don't fall for them

Written by Network News

Over the past couple of months our email boxes have been filled with complaints intially from readers, but lately from those that have found our stories on the web, angry about the sales tactics used by some domain name resellers.

The industry's legitimate sales companies are becoming increasingly frustrated by the high-pressure sales techniques used by the less salubrious peers, and the lack of action by those in authority.

Our investigations have pieced together the most common scams companies employ, the main villains that use these tactics and the impotence of Nominet to stop it happening.

What has become clear is that until someone in authority takes responsibility for stopping these companies, they will continue to charge high fees for unnecessary domain name registrations.

You can make your feelings plain by joining the forum on domain name scams here or write to Network News with your comments.
