Adobe releases Flash Media Server 3 Product Line

Adobe's new server offers media and real-time communications tools

Written by Kim Thomas

Adobe has released Adobe Flash Media Server 3, a family of products offering streaming media and real-time communication capabilities.

The release consists of two products: Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server 3, which provides live and on-demand video streaming; and Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server 3, which provides customised, scalable video streaming services. It also supports a new plug-in architecture that can integrate with rights management systems for real-time access control.

The new products enable content providers to deliver interactive media applications that work consistently across multiple browsers and operating systems: video content can be delivered to the Web, to desktop PCs using Adobe Media Player, and to mobile devices using Adobe Flash Lite 3.

The number of streams per server has nearly doubled in this release, which also offers improved live video support for news, concerts, sporting events and social media services.

Adobe said that the lower prices reduced the barrier to entry for content owners wanting to deliver streaming video online.
