Written by David Neal

Mozilla has released Lightning and Sunbird 0.5, major updates to its open-source browser extension and calendar client respectively.

Both boast improvements better integration with Thunderbird, Mozilla's email client.

According to the product release notes, Lightning 0.5 allows for the automatic migration of evens from Sunbird, as well as Apple's iCal application; has improved reliability and usability; and supports Google calendar.

Sunbird, Mozilla's standalone calendar application, also has a much-improved user interface, better printing tools, and also supports Google calendar and iCal.

A complete list of changes to both tools is available on a Mozilla blog post. Full versions of both tools are expected to be released in early 2008.

Lightning and Sunbird 0.5 are immediately available for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems.
