Genesys Conferencing targets IM and mobile devices

Firm plans to continue push to integrate its video, audio and online conferencing functionality into other business apps

Written by James Murray

Genesys Conferencing has revealed plans to tighten integration between its online conferencing suite and various instant messaging (IM) and mobile technologies as it seeks to improve the accessibility of its software.

The company said that it had enjoyed considerable success with customers by integrating its video, audio and online conferencing functionality into email systems such as Lotus Notes and Outlook and was now working on developing the same integration for various IM clients.

"You can now schedule a Genesys conference through Lotus Notes' or Outlook's calendars and then an invite is automatically sent to the invitees and you can launch the meeting from within your email," said the company's head of communications, Florence Catel. "We also provide that integration in MSN, but now we are looking at integrating with other IM solutions."

The company is also looking to enhance support for 3G and BlackBerry mobile devices as part of a plan to allow users to access web conferences from their mobiles.

Catel said that there were no release dates as yet for the extended functionality, but insisted the company’s R&D teams are currently working on the new capabilities.
