Lightspeed Sytems boosts IT manager resources

Archive represents new resource for IT managers looking for web site classification

Written by Phil Muncaster

Web security specialist Lightspeed Systems Europe has launched a new resource for IT managers designed to enable the speedy classification of web site content, web-based threats and other programs.

The Archive is a database compiled from the internet download process conducted by the firm every month which categorises all the web sites available on the internet, as well as executables and threats, according to the firm's technical director Earnie Kramer.

"Even if people don't use our products, if they're looking through their logs and want to check on a site that their content filters aren't blocking they can check with our resource," he explained. "It's an independent resource so they don't have to visit the sites themselves."
The archive also supplies information on non-malicious software, such as file-sharing applications and media downloaders, that network administrators may not want on their networks because of performance or productivity issues, Kramer added.
